Meet SPIbelt Ambassadors Maggie and Emily
Maggie is a Type 1 Diabetic toddler. She was diagnosed at just 15 months old. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a persons body mistakenly attacks the pancreas. There is no cause or cure for Type 1. Insulin (infused through a pump or through numerous injections per day) is the treatment to keep T1D’s alive since their bodies can’t make insulin on their own. Although T1D is complicated, & everyday (and night!) comes with its challenges, Type 1 diabetics have NO limits or restrictions. They can thrive, and live long & healthy lives with insulin management & proper care. There may not be a cure for Type 1 Diabetes YET, but we are hopeful there will be one in Maggie’s lifetime.
