My name is Melissa McKinnon, and I live in Riverton, Utah with my husband and three yellow labs. I am an Immigration Paralegal, and love helping people. My path to fitness started in 2013 when I weighed in at a whopping 245 pounds. I knew I needed to get healthy, and lose some weight, but let’s face it, weight loss is difficult! I won’t bore you with the program I chose, or go into the details of the program, but I will say Chris and Heidi Powell from Extreme Weight Loss saved my life. I started my journey on their plan, and haven’t looked back. As I started to lose weight, I decided I wanted to try running. I started out with some 5k’s, which were difficult, but I finished them! In December 2012, for Christmas, my husband bought me a Rookie Running class at a local running store. The class was awesome, and I still tell my husband it was the best gift he has ever given me. I have made lifelong friends, and learned a lot about myself and running in general. Fast forward to today, I have lost 100 pounds, and have kept it off. I have completed 18 half marathons since September 2014¸ and my first full marathon was in September 2016. On my weight loss journey, I have found myself, and fell in love with running and weightlifting. I strive to be the best I can be, and inspire those around me at all times. I want everyone that struggles with weight loss to know that it can be done, and whether you are a perfect stranger, or my best friend, I will support you along the way. I never would have made it without my support group, and I know it can be difficult to find the right people to help and inspire you along the way.

Favorite way to workout? Hitting the road and running some miles; I also enjoy lifting weights.

Favorite workout jam?  My favorite jams are normally 80’s hair bands. I’ve been known to sing out loud!

Three things you can’t leave home without? Phone, Garmin, and running shoes

Next thing you want to conquer? NYC Marathon is my next big goal in November of 2017. After that I am hoping for Chicago in 2018.

What is your biggest accomplishment? I completed my first marathon in September of 2016. Best feeling ever!

What is your favorite SPIbelt product and why? SPIbelt Endurance Series. I hate pinning race bibs to my clothes, and sometimes you just need a little extra space for your stuff. The Endurance belt gives me plenty of space to store my stuff, and attaches my race bib. I wouldn’t run a race without it!
